The Pirates of the Caribbean

October 12th, 2011

Yo, Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirates Life For Me. The Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most treasured rides in all of Walt Disney World. In fact, it’s one of the attractions that Walt Disney created himself.  While browsing the Internet one day, I actually found the video in which Walt explains to a woman his vision for the ride before the actual visual conception for it. When going to Walt Disney World and seeing the boats floating in, many people with disabilities might feel intimidated about how to physically get to the boats. However, did you know that there’s an easier way for disabled individuals to get to those boats? Here’s how. When you first go into the building, you will see a person dressed up in a pirate type usher clothes. This is a cast member for the ride. Walk (Or roll) up to that person and tell them that you or someone in your party has a physical disability. The cast member will ask to see your disability pass (I’ll explain what that is in another post). Once he or she sees that pass, they will either take you outside around to the back way, or you’ll have to tell them about the back way. I find that newer cast members may not know that they can take you around that way. In this case, calmly explain to them that you know about the back entrance and you know that it is easier for people with disabilities. Heck, you could even proudly proclaim “I saw it on Beyondthecastleblog.com!” You might get a strange look from the cast member, but it will be good publicity for me. Once you go into that entrance, you will avoid the long line of having to wait for a boat. You still might have to wait for one, but it might not be as long of a wait. If you’ve been to Walt Disney World, what is your favorite part of Pirates of the Caribbean? If you haven’t been there, what are your perceptions of the ride? Post your thoughts below. Next time, we explore the most famous form of transportation in Walt Disney World, the monorail system. Until then, have a magical day!
