Hello Disney lovers. From time to time, I will be reminiscing about my favorite landmarks of Walt Disney World that are no longer around. Today I will talk about the Virgin Megastore at Downtown Disney’s West Side.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Whenever I’d go to Downtown Disney’s West Side, one of my first orders of business was to check out the Virgin Megastore. The store always had a ton of CDs, books and DVDs. I remember how I would see CDs I had never even heard of and couldn’t wait to buy some more. Even if I didn’t find anything I liked, I thought, at least I could look around and just hang out. They even had a DJ working at the store that you could listen to while you shopped. As I was driving up to it in my wheelchair, my anticipation was growing. I rolled up to a building that says “Ridemakers” and I froze. “This is where Virgin’s used to be.” my dad said. “It’s gone. Wow.” he continued. As he finished those words, my shock continued. All those books. All those CDs and DVDs. Gone. How can they just close it up and leave? To say that my heart was broken might be too severe. However, I’ll say I was greatly disappointed and still am about the moving out of the Virgin Megastore. Since that day of shock for me, Disney has transformed that building into a bowling alley that will be open fully in the fall called Splitsville. Also since that day, Ridemakers, a place where you can make your own remote control cars, is opened at Disney’s Marketplace. Despite all the new changes to that area where Virgin Megastore once was, I will always have a soft spot for I think what was one of the best and hippest stores around, Virgin Megastore. What do you remember about Virgin Megastore? Did you ever purchase anything there? If so, what? Please post your comments below or E-mail us at admin@beyondthecastleblog.com with your thoughts. For now though, as always, have a magical day!
